BD Manager - UK law firm
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join a growing Business Development team in a prominent UK law firm. You will work closely with Partners and senior stakeholders to drive the development and growth of key sectors and markets, providing both strategic and operational support.
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with two days per week in the office, subject to business needs.
You will play a central role in strengthening the firm’s market position, driving revenue growth, and supporting client relationship development across priority sectors.
Responsibilities
Driving Business Development Activity
• Lead and deliver activity streams across allocated sectors, markets and campaigns
• Monitor market and competitor trends, providing insight and intelligence to stakeholders
• Identify commercial opportunities and contribute to the development of new services and offerings
• Develop and implement initiatives to enhance reputation, visibility and market presence
• Create and deliver thought leadership and campaign ideas with marketing teams
Lead Generation & Relationship Development
• Identify, engage and progress new leads and targets
• Research key clients, prospects and markets to uncover growth opportunities
• Build and maintain strong relationships with industry stakeholders, professional services firms, banks and trade bodies
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver regional and cross-sector initiatives
Client Management
• Support Partners in managing, growing and retaining key clients
• Track client performance and ensure appropriate follow-up activity
• Drive active client relationship management aligned to revenue goals
Regional Profile & Planning
• Lead regional business development activity
• Build strong working relationships with regional Partners and lawyers
• Contribute to annual business and marketing planning
• Lead regional sales meetings and report on pipeline and success
Winning New Business
• Lead on non-procurement pitches and pricing opportunities
• Develop pitch strategy and produce high-quality bid documentation
• Attend client meetings and pitches with Partners
• Support strategic bids with tailored, client-specific insight
• Coach Partners and fee earners on effective market-facing and pitching activity
Job Requirements
We are looking for someone who can operate confidently at a senior level and drive measurable business growth.
• 5–10 years’ experience in business development within a law firm or professional services environment
• Proven success in sales and new business growth
• Strong project and financial management skills
• Extensive client development and relationship management experience
• Confidence working directly with senior partners and clients
• Excellent communication, influencing and commercial awareness
• CIM qualification or equivalent (desirable)
